Air Purifiers and air quality tips

There is, most likely, an air purifier in your home or at work. How can we help to increase their efficiency even further?

An air purifier is a device that helps improve indoor air quality by removing contaminants from the air. Air purifiers work by pulling air through a series of filters that trap and remove these pollutants, circulating cleaner air back into the room.

Contaminants can include:

  • bacteria and viruses

  • mold spores

  • smoke particles and other airborne particles or gases.

The key functions of an air purifier are:

  1. Filtering Particles: Most air purifiers use High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters to capture particles as small as 0.3 microns, including allergens and pollutants.

  2. Capturing Odors and Gases: Some air purifiers use activated carbon filters to adsorb odors, gases, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the air.

  3. Killing Germs and Bacteria: Some air purifiers use ultraviolet (UV) light or other technologies to kill germs, viruses, and bacteria that pass through the unit.

  4. Improving Air Circulation: By circulating air through the filters, air purifiers help improve overall air circulation in a room, which can reduce stagnant air and help prevent the buildup of indoor pollutants.
